Sankta Maria Folk High School
...is one of 148 schools, following the tradition of so called liberal adult education; non formal and voluntary. The overall object of the Swedish Folk High Schools is to give general civic education. There is a wide range of courses, but all schools have to have a General course, for those who have not completed secondary education or for those who want to go on to further education.
S:ta Maria is a very small school , with about a hundred students and situated in a housing area where around 80 % of the inhabitants are immigrants, many of them unemployed – a real multicultural challenge. The school is under the patronage of the Catholic Church, although the majority of the students are Moslems.
S:ta Maria mainly offers primary and secondary education for adults. The Catholic influence is mostly visible in the short courses that the school arranges for Catholic congregations all over Sweden.
S:ta Maria cooperates in different ways with several European countries: Poland, Ukraine, Spain and Italy.
